A frequency‐domain approach for damage detection in welded structures

نویسندگان

چکیده

The goal of the present paper is to apply a multiaxial fatigue criterion, formulated in frequency-domain, welded components. In particular, proposed procedure requires (i) evaluate stress field at so-called hotspot and (ii) compute damage. A case study, represented by fillet-welded tubular T-joints under random loading, examined assess validity above estimating crack nucleation position. Finally, theoretical results are also compared with those derived means similar procedure, which has recently been some authors, but time-domain.

Damage Detection in Beam-like Structures using Finite Volume Method

In this paper the damage location in beam like-structure is determined using static and dynamic data obtained using finite volume method. The change of static and dynamic displacement due to damage is used to establish an indicator for determining the damage location. In order to assess the robustness of the proposed method for structural damage detection, three test examples including a static...

A TWO-STAGE METHOD FOR DAMAGE DETECTION OF LARGE-SCALE STRUCTURES

A novel two-stage algorithm for detection of damages in large-scale structures under static loads is presented. The technique utilizes the vector of response change (VRC) and sensitivities of responses with respect to the elemental damage parameters (RSEs). It is shown that VRC approximately lies in the subspace spanned by RSEs corresponding to the damaged elements. The property is leveraged in...

Fatigue Crack Detection and Sizing in Welded Steel Structures

The paper gives an outline of the non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods currently being pursued at the Admiralty Marine Technology Establishment, Dunfermline, Scotland. The methods are being used to locate and characterise fatigue cracks in high yield strength welded steel structures. The techniques have been applied principally to large fatigue models (5' and 9' diameter) as part of a compr...

Mechanism of Damping in Welded Structures using Finite Element Approach

The characterization and modeling of the dynamic behavior of many built-up structures under vibration conditions is still a subject of current research. The present study emphasizes the theoretical investigation of slip damping in layered and jointed welded cantilever structures using finite element approach. Application of finite element method in damping analysis is relatively recent, as such...

A Novel Approach for Formability Prediction of Tailor Welded Blank

Formability of Tailor Welded Blank (TWB) is an important parameter which limits this kind of blanks usage. A forming criterion for tailor welded blank is presented based on the analytical model in this research. This criterion suggests Limit Strength Ratio (LSR) and Limit Thickness Ratio (LTR) for forming limit of TWB. When thickness ratio or strength ratio in tailor welded blank is greater tha...
